Food for fuel?

The news of the day is that there is a food shortage coming. Duh! What news reporter climbed out from under a rock and figured that out? The first thing they do is try and find a cause. For some reason, they have fixed their sights on the growing ethanol market to supplement gas. Unfortunately, they have targeted the wrong thing.

The bigger issue is that the American government has for decades paid American farmers not to grow food. Millions of people around the world are starving and farmers are getting paid not to grow food. Farmers are paid about $14.3 billion a year (average from 1995-2004). The cost is not so terrorizing when you realize that the land laying uncultivated and children as starving in the United States and around the world.

Time to look at the real causes. Wake up! Put the blame where it goes.
